When in October 2010, someone proposed me to be the designer for the renovation of Rockefeller villa in shanghai I felt extremely excited.
当时正值2010国庆时节，一位朋友向我提案了一份关于上海洛克菲勒别墅改建项目的方案，使我兴奋不已。

Such a building is so peculiar and witness of last century changes in history.
这是一栋不可多得的设计精品，并且见证了上世纪风云变幻的历史。

The villa was built in 1913 for the American Rockefeller family in a classical colonial style: mostly wood floor in the main interior areas and ceramic mosaic in the bathrooms a few fireplaces imported during last century and a very stunning entrance in marble stones to testify the austerity and power. The villa was not actually the residence for Rockefeller’s family in Shanghai but a gathering and hospitality place for fellow American investors.
这栋别墅落成于1913年，为洛克菲勒家族度身打造的古典殖民时代的建筑风格：以大量实木地板打底的室内区域以及浴室中的陶瓷锦砖，佐以当年进口的柴火壁炉配合气派庄严的大理石入口来作为其家族的底蕴与权贵的象征。然而从别墅本身并未被洛克菲勒当做居家用，更多的是扮演商务宴请与招待其美国投资人与生意合作伙伴的场所。

During the Cultural Revolution the building became property of the Chinese army and it was converted into a military regiment called “8th battalion of nanjing road”: the building become a place for Chinese military to discuss strategies and host important meeting, but the beauty of the interior felled into a decadence atmosphere.
在中国文化大革命时期，洛克菲勒别墅成为了中国人民解放军的财产并且将其转化成了一个营级部队的办公地点：南京路好八连。至此，美轮美奂的别墅内饰渐渐被时光与人为的滥用，而日渐凋零。

In 2010 a private investor decided to rent it and converted into an exclusive dining place to match the sophisticated and luxurious life of nowadays Shanghai.
在2010年，一个自由投资人决定出资，租下这栋别墅并将其改建成为一个私密的高端会所与餐馆来迎合今时今日上海精致奢华的城市生活风格。

At my first site inspection I noticed that the building had several structural problems, water infiltration in the walls, wooden structure of the roof and floor in several areas were heavily damaged.
在我第一次对现场进行勘察时，注意到建筑有多处结构上的问题，墙壁的渗水问题以及数个区域的实木结构的天花板与地面都有严重损坏的现象。

Beside that, after a research in the shanghai archive I noticed that the windows of the main elevations looked different in size and shape compared to the ones originally builtin 1913.
除此之外，在经过一系列在上海档案馆的系统研究和案例调查后，我也留意到主外立面的窗户已经在外观和尺寸上与1913年时大相径庭。

After a detailed building survey and many technical analysis I was able to bring back the building into a good structural condition and create and interior design style that is able to reflect the turbulent past of the villa into the present usage of a place for people to enjoy and feel part of the villa glorious time.
在经过一份详尽的建筑调研和许多工程技术分析后，我终于将洛克菲勒别墅脱胎换骨并营造出了可重现别墅昔日的风采，过往历历在目的动荡历史以及场所内显贵们尽享其极的光辉岁月。

I restored all the wooden decoration of walls and doors with several treatments to bring back the original color.
我还原了所有墙壁的木质装潢以及在门上做了几项复原工序，使其恢复到原有的颜色。

In the bathroom areas I restored the ceramic mosaic and in the upper floor and I also preserved the original ceramic tiles floor near the window.
在浴室区域，我还原了上层楼面的陶瓷锦砖并且保留了窗户附近地面上原先的陶瓷瓷砖。

I chose a kind of wooden window frames that better reminds of the original ones and add a series of accessories and furniture related to the famous shanghai 1910s time.
我选择了一种可以与上世纪初外观与颜色相近的木质窗架以及一系列的装饰品与家具来维护设计上的力度与一致性。

For the outside elevation I used stone paint in beige color and for the roof we were able to reuse the original roof tiling.
在外立面上，我运用了米黄色的砖式涂料；屋顶上也重新利用了当年的屋顶瓦。

I feel very lucky to have been the designer of such a unique building.
对于能够成为独一无二的建筑的设计师，我感到十分幸运呢！

Finally the villa is back to its gorgeous time and people can now visit it and feel part of the history.
最终，洛克菲勒别墅已经复原其昔日的华丽面貌，人们可以到访并感受其历史韵味。
